About the Surgical Unit

Our facility is a Level 3 trauma center equipped with 15 operating rooms, recognized for excellence in bariatric and total joint surgeries. Approximately 40% of our surgical cases involve total joints and elective spine procedures, while the remaining 60% encompass General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic, and ENT surgeries. The surgical environment is technologically advanced, featuring 3 Davinci robots, a Mako robot, as well as Mazor and Stealth technologies. Our surgical team collaborates closely, with Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and Surgery Support Staff working in unison to ensure optimal patient care and support for surgeons and anesthesia providers throughout the surgical process. The surgical team also acts as advocates for patients while they are under anesthesia, utilizing precise critical thinking skills in a fast-paced environment, all while prioritizing cost-effective quality care and patient safety.

Responsibilities of the Surgical Technologist

The Surgical Technologist is accountable for the preparation of the surgical suite, the intraoperative management of instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and assessing changing conditions during surgical procedures, responding appropriately as necessary. This role requires a thorough understanding of surgical procedures and principles relevant to those procedures. The Surgical Technologist may also serve as a Preceptor.

Qualifications

  • Required: Associate's Degree or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program. Note that not all programs confer an Associate's degree.
  • Preferred: Experience as a Surgical Technologist (clinical rotations are considered experience).
  • Required: AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Work Environment

This position is full-time, with day shifts scheduled for 36 hours per week. Flexibility is required as workdays and weekend shifts may vary.
