About the Role:

As a Product and Business Counsel at FIS, you will play a critical role in providing legal guidance on products and commercial matters. You will work closely with product teams to provide legal advice on new product offerings, features, and functionalities. Your expertise will be essential in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements for products and services, as well as terms of use, policies, and customer documentation. About the Team:
The FIS Legal team is a collaborative and diverse group of approximately 200 attorneys and paraprofessionals worldwide. We work closely with business colleagues to solve problems in an effective and pragmatic manner. Our role is to support our business leaders in various legal matters, and we strive to assist our businesses in meeting their objectives with sound, reasonable, and well-considered legal counsel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with the business to develop strategies for new products, features, and sales initiatives, and provide legal advice on customer experiences intended to deliver value and benefits to customers.
  • Get to know the business in-depth to identify and apply laws and legal requirements for the business teams, and work with the business and other legal colleagues to develop creative solutions and resolve issues.
  • Prepare and negotiate contracts to bring new products to market and streamline time to revenue while ensuring contractual terms protect FIS and minimize risk.
  • Advise colleagues on legal issues relating to commercial contracts, product development, and compliance.
  • Provide legal support for strategic relationships with technology partners, resellers, and vendors.
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant laws and regulations in the financial services and payables spaces.
  • Render opinions and advice regarding the interpretation of contract provisions and other business law issues.
  • Review and advise on legal compliance of go-to-market sales materials and marketing materials.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent implementation of legal guidance and alignment on many areas, including risk, compliance, intellectual property, and privacy.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or law, or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience, and a Juris Doctor from an accredited US law school, and be licensed to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • A minimum of 8-10+ years' experience in the practice of law in a high-quality law firm or in-house environment, and be a seasoned, experienced legal professional with a full understanding of corporate and commercial contract issues.
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in financial technology solutions, in-house experience with a financial institution or fintech.
  • Strong analytical and advisory skills, including the ability to review and evaluate multi-faceted issues and counsel business colleagues on complex legal questions relating to various business matters, such as product development and compliance.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with senior management, outside legal counsel, and internal and external clients.
  • Strong negotiation and deal-making skills, including the ability to balance the company's goals and the client's needs, as well as the ability to deal with multiple parties with competing interests.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Significant experience in negotiation of fintech or related contracts.
  • Strong experience handling complex projects with little management consultation and ability to lead subordinates on a project.

FIS is committed to providing its employees with an exciting career opportunity and competitive compensation. The pay range for this full-time position is $163,274.00 and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position based on the posted role, level, and location. Within the range, actual individual starting pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Any changes in work location will also impact actual individual starting pay.
