Electrical Hardware Design Lead for Hybrid Teams

Owl Labs is seeking a seasoned Electrical Hardware Design Lead to join our Systems Engineering team. As a key contributor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the design of our products, which cater to hybrid teams and remote workers.

In this on-site position at our Boston Office, with flexibility to hire candidates based in San Francisco Bay Area, we offer a competitive salary ranging from $150,000 to $200,000 per year, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
Job Description
We are looking for an accomplished Electrical Hardware Design Lead who can define, guide, and own aspects of system architecture product definition. Your expertise should include core competencies and subject matter knowledge in various electrical design aspects, with successful influence on decision-makers, product features, and customer experiences. Key responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating cross-functionally to define, guide, and own aspects of system architecture product definition.
- Analyzing key system trade-offs and proposing solutions, including high-performance / low-power / high-quality products, electrical and mechanical layouts, and feature integration feasibility.
- Designing high-speed board-level electrical designs, encompassing schematic capture, layout, power budgeting, signal/power integrity, EMC, RF challenges.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop system validation, including thermal, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, acoustic, signal integrity, power integrity, and stress testing.
- Defining board-level hardware bring-up plans and executing them.
- Developing manufacturing test plans at board and system levels, working closely with 3rd party test fixture vendors to define, develop, and validate test fixtures for manufacturing tests.
- Collaborating with Mechanical and Optical teams to ensure designs meet Mechanical keep outs, height restrictions, and Camera Module-related I/O requirements.
- Working with Embedded Firmware and Application Software teams on hardware design reviews and debugging issues.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Electrical Engineering, with 15+ years of experience in electrical hardware development.
- A proven track record of developing consumer products from prototype to mass production.
- Hands-on experience designing boards with Application Processors from Qualcomm, MediaTek, or NXP.
- Extensive experience designing high-speed boards involving MIPI, USB, DisplayPort, Sensors, PCIe Gen 3/4, RF (802.11 and Bluetooth), HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, LPDDR 4x/5x, eMMC, UFS, I2S, I2C, and SPI.
- Ability to work with 3rd party vendors to guide layout requirements, pre-layout and post-layout Signal Integrity and Power Deliver simulations.
- Experience with audio/video devices, including microphones, speakers, and CMOS imaging sensors.
- Design experience meeting compliance requirements, such as EMC, ESD, Safety, RF, and Environmental.
- Hands-on experience with Electrical Schematic Capture and Layout software like Altium, OrCAD, Allegro, and interactions between EE and ME tools and ERP systems like Arena.
- Experience creating and influencing system specification documents for electrical, power delivery, thermal, and physical fit requirements.
- Experience working with offshore OEM, ODM, and JDM, including manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Experience working in a fast-paced engineering environment, utilizing real-time crisis management skills.
- Strong analytical skills using data-driven decisions, backing up assumptions, and developing scalable expectations.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally when needed.
