The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Strategist and Sustainability Leader to join their team. As a key member of the Department of Transportation, this role will play a vital part in shaping the future of environmental planning and management within the state.

About the Position

As an Environmental Strategist and Sustainability Leader, you will be responsible for leading the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP) in the district. This will involve guiding maintenance staff on SEMP initiatives and evaluating their implementation to ensure effective execution of environmental strategies. Your leadership will create a supportive atmosphere for maintenance staff to excel while advancing the district's sustainability objectives.

Description of Work

In this role, you will cultivate and sustain a comprehensive understanding of the SEMP, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. You will facilitate the execution of the district's SEMP management team and oversee the county SEMP teams and auditing groups. Additionally, you will engage in necessary training to uphold environmental designations, certifications, and to enhance your ability to assess environmental impacts related to transportation projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP) in the district.
  • Guide maintenance staff on SEMP initiatives and evaluate their implementation.
  • Cultivate and sustain a comprehensive understanding of the SEMP.
  • Facilitate the execution of the district's SEMP management team.
  • Oversee the county SEMP teams and auditing groups.
  • Engage in necessary training to uphold environmental designations and certifications.
  • Assess environmental impacts related to transportation projects.

The salary range for this position is estimated to be between $60,000 and $90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have at least two years of experience as an Environmental Planner 1, or five years of progressive professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning. A Master's degree in planning or one of the environmental sciences and two years of progressive professional environmental planning experience may also be considered. You must be able to perform essential job functions and meet the PA residency requirement.
