Qualifications

The Chemist position is classified under the 1320 occupational series. To qualify at the GS-12 level, all requirements must be met by the specified deadline.

Basic Requirements

To qualify for the GS-12 level, candidates must meet the following educational requirements:
  1. A Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including 30 semester hours in chemistry, along with coursework in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
  1. A combination of education and experience equivalent to a major that includes the courses specified above, with at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, along with relevant experience or additional education.
NOTE: Applicants must provide all relevant transcripts to demonstrate they meet the Basic Qualifications.

AND

Minimum Qualifications:

Specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience or its equivalent, which includes: analyzing complex and unprecedented samples; developing and modifying analytical methods; interpreting and evaluating scientific analysis results; and preparing scientific reports.

All qualification requirements must be met by the specified deadline. If it is determined that applicants have inflated their responses compared to their background information, they may be deemed ineligible or their score may be adjusted.

Education

No educational substitution is permitted for this position at the GS-12 grade level.
