Nursing Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Assistant to join our team at the Salem VA Medical Center. As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the overall success of our healthcare team.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long-term care, or outpatient setting.
  • Provide basic, appropriate, and effective interventions to individual patient needs according to established facility policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with registered nurses and licensed vocational nurses/licensed practical nurses to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participate in patient-centered conferences/shift reports and contribute information for the development and review of the nursing care plan.
  • Maintain a therapeutic environment for patients according to established procedures and policies.
  • Perform and document prescribed medical treatment and interventions for patients, such as diabetic urine testing and blood testing, simple dressing changes.
  • Learn to be proficient with utilizing rehabilitative principles to promote patient independence and recovery.
  • Encourage and guide patients/residents in bowel and bladder training.
  • Monitor patients according to levels of observation, such as one-to-one suicide, continuous observation, every 15-minute checks, and hourly rounding.
  • Report patient status to the RN and document pertinent observations in the medical record according to established procedures.
Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Experience or Education or Training: Six months of general experience, one year of education above high school with courses related to the NA occupation, or completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related training course of study.
  • English Language Proficiency: NAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.
Work Schedule:

7:00pm-7:30am Night Shift; Must be available for rotating weekends; Specific work tour will be discussed during interview process.
