Job Overview

As a Mainframe Software Engineer at Ascendion, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining mainframe applications using IBM-Z/OS technologies and other related tools. You will work with a range of technologies and methodologies to ensure robust and efficient application performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Design and Development: Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using IBM-Z/OS technologies and other related tools.
  • Coding and Debugging: Write and debug code in one or more programming languages, ensuring high quality and reliability in a large corporate environment.
  • Operational Stability: Maintain and enhance system stability through rigorous testing and operational practices.
  • Agile Methodologies: Apply agile methodologies, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security best practices to the development lifecycle.
  • Mainframe Technologies: Utilize IBM-Z/OS COBOL, CICS, IMS DB/DC, DB2, VSAM, JCL, CA7, and Changeman/Endeavor. Experience with IBM WebSphere MQ messaging solutions is also essential.
  • API Development: Create APIs using z/OS Connect and Kafka integration where applicable.
  • Cloud and Modern Technologies: Demonstrate knowledge of AWS and, where possible, modern front-end technologies.
Requirements
  • Practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and ensuring operational stability.
  • Proficiency in coding with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Strong grasp of agile methodologies including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
  • Hands-on experience with IBM-Z/OS technologies, including COBOL, CICS, IMS DB/DC, DB2, VSAM, JCL, CA7, and Changeman/Endeavor.
  • Experience with IBM WebSphere MQ messaging solutions.
  • Ability to create APIs using z/OS Connect and Kafka integration is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AWS is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with modern front-end technologies.
  • Knowledge of the banking domain and credit card systems.
  • Exposure to cloud technologies.
  • Experience with Java.
