Position Overview:

Under the guidance of the Director, Technical Supervisor, and Lead Therapist, the Radiation Therapy Specialist is responsible for operating all radiation therapy apparatus, preparing and treating patients according to physician directives, maintaining patient treatment documentation, and providing patient education. This role emphasizes adherence to radiation safety protocols, sterile techniques, and the upkeep of the work environment. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate all CT/SIM and treatment machinery, including linear accelerators and high dose rate afterloading systems.
  • Conduct morning checks and warm-ups of CT/SIM and/or accelerators.
  • Manage treatment devices and all patient support systems, along with the Record and Verify system.
  • Administer treatments to patients following prescribed modalities, energy levels, doses, and monitoring units/treatment times as directed by a physician.
  • Execute patient setups in accordance with physician orders and departmental policies.
  • Engage in a collaborative approach to delivering radiation treatments.
  • Maintain treatment records, coordinate patient schedules, and provide necessary instructions to patients.
  • Construct patient setup devices, immobilization tools, and radiation field-shaping blocks.
  • Prepare patient treatment documentation.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior that meets the age-specific needs of each patient.
  • Ensure the safety of patients, staff, visitors, and oneself from unnecessary radiation exposure or harm.
  • Uphold infection control practices to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills while collaborating effectively with all team members.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience
  • At least one year of recent experience (within the last three years) utilizing various radiation therapy equipment.
  • Current KP Coalition employees may have this experience requirement waived as per the National Agreement.
Education
  • N/A
License, Certification, Registration
  • Certification as a Radiologic Technologist from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists OR Certification as a Radiation Therapy Technologist from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California).
  • Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Strong customer service orientation and teamwork skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with record and verify systems and multi-leaf collimators.
  • Preferred experience with Onboard Imaging (OBI).
  • Graduation from a JCERT accredited program is preferred.
