Clinical Dietitian Role at Norman Regional Health System

The Clinical Dietitian role involves providing comprehensive nutritional care and education to patients and staff. This position requires a Registered Dietitian/RDN designation, expertise in various subspecialty areas, and ongoing professional development to stay updated in the field. Experience in an acute care facility is preferred, along with necessary certifications and licensure.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct initial nutrition assessments to identify patient needs.
  • Provide ongoing reassessment and follow-up care to ensure optimal nutritional outcomes.
  • Develop and implement nutrition education programs for patients and staff.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:

This role requires a degree from any program approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics leading to registration as a Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist (RD/RDN). A basic knowledge of subspecialty areas, including nutrition support, diabetes, cardiology, renal, and oncology, is essential. The ability to obtain approximately 15 hours of continuing education credits per calendar year and stay current with new findings and research is also required.


Preferred Qualifications:

At least six months of clinical experience in an acute care facility is preferred.


Licensure and Certification:

Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and an Oklahoma State Dietitian license must be achieved within the first six months of employment. A food handler's permit from the Cleveland County Health department must be obtained before hire or within one week of hire. Completion of general and patient care orientation is required prior to providing patient care.


Other Essential Skills:

The ability to use decision-making skills to prioritize patient care, recognize unsafe work conditions, and safely use chemicals and equipment is essential. A strong knowledge base of different formulas and their applications in assessing patient nutritional needs is also required.
