Position: Instructor - Medical Assisting (P1052)

Location: Putnam Career and Technical Center

Salary Range: Based on experience and educational qualifications per Putnam County Board of Education salary schedule, along with a competitive benefits package that includes: PEIA insurance, retirement, life insurance, and complimentary vision and dental insurance.

Job Overview: The Medical Assisting Instructor is tasked with delivering a thorough instructional program. Responsibilities include overseeing the facility, equipment, curriculum, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The instructor must adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and procedures for vocational/technical education.

Qualifications:
  • Possesses or qualifies for a Vocational Permit/Certificate endorsed for medical assisting, or is willing to obtain one within the first year of employment.
  • Holds a valid West Virginia NRCMA.
The Vocational Permit requires: 1) a valid West Virginia license as a registered nurse; 2) successful completion of required basic skills assessments in reading, writing, and mathematics; and 3) Four years (8,000 clock hours) of wage-earning experience in the health assisting field, with the most recent experience within the last three years.

Length of Employment: 210 Days

Key Responsibilities: The Medical Assisting Instructor will have the following duties:

  1. To implement, assess, and enhance the program of study developed by the state and county in the assigned specialization.
  2. To cultivate a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  3. To utilize instructional management systems that promote student academic success.
  4. To monitor student progress towards achieving instructional goals and objectives.
  5. To maintain effective communication within the educational community and with parents regularly.
  6. To fulfill professional responsibilities associated with the role.
  7. To execute activities required under the State Department of Education's Technical and Adult Education Services Policies and Procedures Manual and Public Law.
  8. To ensure a safe learning environment for students.
  9. To keep equipment in safe, operational condition.
  10. To sponsor Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) relevant to the specialization.
  11. To assist in student placement and cooperative job training.
  12. To promote the program through information dissemination and recruitment efforts.
  13. To complete and submit all required reports in a timely manner as mandated by law and the West Virginia Department of Education.
  14. To report any situations that may pose a risk to the health and safety of students and/or staff.
  15. To inform the principal of any situations requiring immediate intervention to maintain the instructional program.
  16. To complete assigned duties as designated by the principal.
  17. To communicate students' progress and/or deficiencies to parents/guardians.
  18. To accept responsibility for assigned students.
  19. To supervise students consistently in accordance with state, county, and school policies.
  20. To attend all faculty meetings and other required gatherings.
  21. To meet annual continuing education requirements and participate in other necessary training programs.
  22. To take student attendance as legally required and in line with county policy.
  23. To accept reasonable extra duty assignments essential for a successful educational program.
  24. To maintain professional work habits and continuously upgrade professional skills.
  25. To perform additional duties as assigned by the director or assistant principal.
