Position Overview

The Travel Nurse RN role at UW Health University Hospital is an exciting opportunity for skilled nursing professionals seeking to make a significant impact in patient care. This position requires a dedicated individual who is ready to deliver high-quality nursing services in a dynamic environment.

Certification Requirements
  • Must possess a valid WI nursing license or a compact license from the state of permanent residence.
  • Candidates without a WI or compact license may be considered, provided they apply for a temporary license under the Wisconsin Act 10 order within 48 hours of accepting the offer and submit a screenshot of the application.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications must be obtained through the American Heart Association exclusively.
Job Responsibilities
  • The F4/4 Trauma and Surgical Intermediate Care Unit consists of a 26-bed facility, including a 12-bed IMC for trauma and surgical patients and a 14-bed general care unit.
  • Provide comprehensive multidisciplinary care to patients with multi-system trauma and high acuity surgical needs.
  • Key clinical activities include chest tube management, tracheostomy care, complex wound management, orthopedic stabilization, medication and blood product administration, rehabilitation preparation, mechanical ventilation, and monitoring of central venous pressure and arterial lines.
  • Deliver care to multi-system trauma patients admitted directly from the emergency department, ICU, or IMC.
Qualifications
  • Permanent address must be outside a 50-mile radius of Madison.
  • Recent experience in IMC and acute medical or surgical settings is required.
  • If ICU experience is present, willingness to care for IMC and general care patient populations is essential.
  • Two years of acute care experience within the last three years is mandatory.
  • Experience in an Academic Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Center or a hospital of similar size is necessary.
  • Two references from recent work environments (supervisor or manager) are required.
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience is essential.
  • Passing the UW Health Telemetry test is required prior to starting (not applicable for clinic positions).
Work Schedule
  • Travelers will be the first to float to different units as needed.
  • Shifts may be scheduled across multiple units based on current staffing requirements and organizational needs.
  • If the primary unit no longer requires staffing, shifts will be reassigned to ensure contract completion.
