Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Attendant to join our Float Pool team, working full-time evening shifts. As a Nursing Attendant, you will play a vital role in providing direct and indirect patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in implementing the nursing process by performing direct and indirect patient care to assigned patients.
  • Maintain an orderly and safe patient care environment and unit.
  • Assist with Admission/Transfer/Discharge of patients, including orienting patients to the hospital environment, providing toileting supplies, and assisting with patient transfers.
  • Conduct patient rounds for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety, and personal needs.
  • Provide basic hygiene to patients, including bathing, AM/PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail and foot care, and shaving.
  • Prepare patients for meals, including clearing overbed tables, positioning patients correctly for eating/tube feedings, and assisting patients with utensils and food items.
  • Perform and/or assist patients with simple treatments, including removing and reapplying SCD wraps and assisting with enema procedures.
  • Collect specimens as directed by the RN.
  • Inform the RN of any audible clinical alarms, including IV pumps, feeding pumps, ventilators, and bedside monitors.
  • Assist with moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients.
  • Assist with removal and security of patient personal items prior to procedures, as needed.
  • Change linen in accordance with policy and as necessary.
  • Take and electronically record blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, and respiration per care level standard and as directed by the RN.
  • Report abnormalities to the RN.
  • Weigh patients and electronically record on admission, as ordered, and/or as directed by the RN.
  • Measure and record oral intake, urinary output, bowel elimination, gastric and other drainage onto I&O record (form or electronic).
  • Calculate 8-hour totals.
  • Empty drainage bags.
  • Perform post-mortem care.
  • Perform safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints, per policy and as directed.
  • Report any changes observed in the patient's condition to the RN.
  • Respond to and meet patient/family needs and customer concerns as soon as possible with compassion and understanding.
  • Establish effective, caring relationships with staff, patients, family, and other members of the health care team.
  • Maintain competence through in-service and educational programs.
  • Attend staff meetings and review/sign minutes of meetings not attended.
  • Maintain a safe and uncluttered environment of care in patient rooms, including removing excessive furniture, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with supply and equipment management of patient, procedure, and supply rooms per department standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of utility rooms and pantries as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as aligned with the mission and values of the organization.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant program or minimum 6 months relevant experience.
  • BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification.
  • Working knowledge of English is evident in verbal, reading, and writing abilities.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
