Job Description

As a Medical Professional at CSL Plasma, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of donors and staff. Your primary responsibility will be to evaluate donor suitability for plasma collection procedures, administer immunizations, and provide limited emergency medical care. You will also be responsible for conducting confidential interviews with donors, performing medical history reviews, and assessing donor health.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate donor suitability for plasma collection procedures and administer immunizations as needed.
  2. Provide limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including the administration of medication or treatments in accordance with licensure or certification.
  3. Conduct confidential interviews with donors to obtain necessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma.
  4. Perform medical history reviews and health assessments on donors.
  5. Assess results of donor screening and laboratory tests to determine initial and continuing donor suitability.
  6. Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results and refer them to community facilities for follow-up and counseling.
  7. Explain informed consent to applicant donors and obtain their signature and date certifying informed consent.
  8. Handle medical emergencies at the center by providing routine care as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and elevating situations to the Center Physician or local medical service providers as required.
  9. Review test results and determine continued donor suitability, following SOPs regarding acceptable ranges of four-month required test (PE/STS) reports.
  10. Assess signs and symptoms a donor may exhibit that may result in the inability to continue donating.
  11. Manage employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization program, including administration of immunizations.
  12. Understand the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center where applicable and oversee donor immunization programs.
  13. Ensure the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.
  14. Maintain a clean and efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed.
  15. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  16. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic medical training program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred.
  • Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.
  • Ability to instruct donors, staff, and community regarding the benefit of plasma donation programs.
Working Conditions

This is a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. You will be frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and to blood-borne pathogens. You will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas. You will be required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.
