Job Summary

As a Histology Laboratory Supervisor, you will play a critical role in managing a team of histotechnologists, histology technicians, and laboratory assistants in the histology laboratory at Chester County Hospital.

The lab supports specimens from outpatient settings, radiology, and the OR, producing pathology slides from biopsies and surgical resections for cancer diagnosis and staging.

As a technical supervisor, you will oversee all technical lab operations, including accessioning, intraoperative consultations, adequate fixation, timely and accurate tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, instrument preventative maintenance and verification, and staining. You will also deploy and develop satisfactory staining techniques, including H&E stains, special stains, immunohistochemical stains, and perform QA and validations.

Additionally, you will select proper control tissues to ensure acceptable technical performance of all stains and procedures, supporting accurate pathologic diagnosis by pathologists. You will also create histology protocols, forms, and workflows for the lab to accurately prepare representative cancer tissue in support of molecular testing and genomic analysis for immunotherapy.

The ideal candidate will have an Associate's degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences or a related healthcare field, with five plus years of experience working in a Histology lab. A Bachelor's degree and additional education or lab training in Lab Management or Lab Management are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of histotechnologists, histology technicians, and laboratory assistants in the histology laboratory

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences or a related healthcare field
• Five plus years of experience working in a Histology lab
• A Bachelor's degree and additional education or lab training in Lab Management or Lab Management are preferred
• Knowledge of, and ability to manage, the general hazards encountered when working with potentially infectious materials, hazardous chemicals, radioisotopes, and laboratory equipment
• License, registration, or certification in HTL (ASCP) CM or other equivalent certification required
