Job Title: HLD/SPD SpecialistUTMB Health is seeking a highly skilled HLD/SPD Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our infection control team, you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and guidelines regarding the operation, storage, and transport of clean/sterile equipment throughout our healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess disinfection and sterilization of reusable medical equipment, transport of soiled and clean/sterile equipment, storage of clean/sterile equipment and supplies, and environmental requirements for processing and storage areas against regulatory standards and professional guidelines.
- Develop project definition including education and competencies.
- Ensure compliance with the health system HLD/sterilization policy and procedures via routine auditing and environmental rounds.
- Develop and implement a risk assessment strategy to assure assessment of all processing areas and to prioritize those with greatest risk for patient harm.
- Communicate and coordinate assessments and recommendations with clinical leadership, equipment processors, Property Services, Clinical Equipment Services, Sterile Processing Departments, and leadership in the Environment of Care program as needed.
- Four years' experience in sterile processing and/or high-level disinfection in a complex health care setting.
- Requires knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards and guidelines for transport, processing, and storage of medical equipment and supplies as well as accreditation standards for infection control.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or CHL International Association for Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) certification.
- Associates degree or higher preferred.
- Experience in Infection Prevention preferred.
