Job Summary

As a Medical Assistant at Cook County Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the clinical and administrative functions of our healthcare team. Under the supervision of a licensed physician, you will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure the continuity of care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document accurate medical histories, vital signs, and other relevant information for patients.
  • Prepare patient rooms for medical visits, maintain cleanliness, and dispose of infectious materials properly.
  • Assist with clerical and administrative duties, including answering phones, sorting medical charts, and scheduling appointments.
  • Perform laboratory procedures, such as finger stick glucose, venipuncture, and EKGs, and accurately document results.
  • Assist physicians with physical exams, minor surgical procedures, and treatments, and administer medications as ordered.
  • Provide first aid and other related procedures, including removing and changing dressings, applying bandages, and removing sutures.
  • Communicate patient needs to providers, including refill requests, test results, and patient concerns.
  • Support the provider staff with completing referrals for diagnostic testing and specialist consultations.
Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or five years of recent full-time professional Medical Assistant experience.
  • Certificate as a Medical Assistant through a recognized organization, such as the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a related clinical capacity within a healthcare environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA safety practices.
Working Conditions

This position exists in a medical office work environment, with frequent exposure to various hazards of patient care. The incumbent will be required to stand and walk 80% of the day, and may be required to lift/push/pull up to 25lbs.
