Position Overview:

Under the general oversight of the Director, Technical Supervisor, and Lead Therapist, the Radiation Therapist is responsible for operating all radiation therapy machinery, setting up and administering treatments to patients as per physician directives, maintaining accurate patient treatment documentation, providing guidance to patients, adhering to radiation safety protocols, practicing sterile techniques, and ensuring the cleanliness of the assigned workspace. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operates all CT/SIM and treatment devices, including linear accelerators and high dose rate afterloading machines.
  • Conducts morning checks and warm-ups of CT/SIM and/or accelerators.
  • Manages treatment machines along with all patient support systems and the Record and Verify system.
  • Administers treatments according to the prescribed mode, energy, dosage, and monitoring units/treatment duration as directed by a physician.
  • Executes patient setups in accordance with physician orders and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Engages in a collaborative approach to delivering radiation treatments.
  • Keeps detailed treatment records, organizes patient treatment schedules, and offers patient instructions.
  • Creates patient setup devices, immobilization tools, and radiation field-shaping blocks.
  • Prepares patient treatment documentation.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior that is sensitive to the age-specific needs of each patient.
  • Ensures the safety of patients, staff, visitors, and self from unnecessary radiation exposure or harm.
  • Follows infection control practices to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
  • Maintains effective verbal and written communication skills and collaborates well with all team members.
  • Exhibits outstanding customer service abilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience
  • At least one year of recent experience (within the last three years) operating various radiation therapy equipment.
  • Current KP Coalition employees may have this experience requirement waived as per the National Agreement.
Education
  • N/A
License, Certification, Registration
  • Certification as a Radiologic Technologist from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists OR Certification as a Radiation Therapy Technologist from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California).
  • Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Strong customer service orientation and teamwork skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with record and verify systems and multi-leaf collimators.
  • Preferred experience with Onboard Imaging (OBI).
  • Graduation from a JCERT accredited program is preferred.
