Position Summary:
The Field Education Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the strategic planning, execution, and assessment of the field placement programs for both undergraduate and graduate students at New Mexico Highlands University. This position is essential for ensuring the successful integration of academic learning with practical field experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and assess a robust field placement program for both BSW and MSW students.
- Oversee the placement process for students in accredited field practicum organizations.
- Engage in the recruitment, evaluation, and retention of field practicum agencies, ensuring alignment with the university's mission.
- Assign field consultants to students, providing guidance and support throughout their practicum experiences.
- Conduct performance evaluations of field consultants to ensure high standards of support.
- Address and resolve issues faced by students or agencies in the field placement process.
- Manage field management software, ensuring it is effectively utilized and regularly updated.
- Facilitate orientations for students, field consultants, and agency representatives.
- Organize and execute an annual Field/Career Fair.
- Utilize technology to enhance communication with students, field staff, and agencies.
- Provide regular reports to the Dean and Field Education Director regarding student progress and agency status.
- Participate in faculty and staff meetings, contributing to the overall mission of the school.
- Support recruitment initiatives for specialized programs.
- Collaborate closely with faculty advisors.
- Engage in various school committees as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain consistent attendance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
Experience: A minimum of three years of post-MSW professional experience in community, state, or educational organizations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a field education coordinator, field consultant, or field supervisor/instructor is highly desirable.
Eligibility Requirements:
Possession of a current license from the State of New Mexico at the LMSW, LISW, or LCSW level, or eligibility for licensure. Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, is essential. This position is contingent upon grant funding.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of social service and mental health agencies in the local area. A commitment to social justice, excellent technology skills, and the ability to engage in creative problem-solving are critical. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and the capacity to work with diverse populations. Bilingual skills are a plus.
Physical Demands:
Frequent sitting, occasional standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Prolonged use of a computer is expected.
Work Environment:
This role is primarily office-based, with the potential for frequent interruptions.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
