Job Summary

The Formwork Engineer I plays a crucial role in the design and preparation of formwork layout drawings, ensuring the most efficient, safe, and economical form systems are incorporated into the project design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Calculates preliminary loads for shoring, forming, and reshoring to ensure structural integrity.
  • Determines member sizes and proper spacing to optimize formwork performance.
  • Ensures formwork loads fall within the capacities of the crane to prevent accidents.
  • Confirms framing layouts meet the design load requirements to guarantee stability.
  • Designs the lifting and rigging equipment to facilitate safe and efficient formwork installation.
  • Designs temporary bracing for existing structures such as walls and floors to prevent damage.
  • Presents all calculations for review to the assigned Formwork Engineer II or III to ensure accuracy.
  • Provides design calculations for the production of formwork shop drawings to facilitate fabrication.
  • Produces pour break drawings to ensure smooth construction progress.
  • Produces preliminary crane layout drawings based on design calculations to optimize crane usage.
  • Identifies safety issues on the drawings to prevent accidents.
  • Communicates with the field on drawing conflicts and issues related to formwork to ensure timely resolution.
  • Reviews construction drawings for dimensional conflicts and clarifications to prevent errors.
  • Produces RFIs to resolve conflicts and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Produces repetitive drawings for typical formwork layout to streamline the design process.
  • Maintains project drawing files to ensure easy access and organization.
  • Plots and assembles drawings per standards set by the Engineering Department to ensure consistency.
  • Compares and checks their production drawings to the construction documents to ensure accuracy.
  • Participates in transition meetings to determine production schedule for shop to ensure timely delivery.
  • Provides quantity take-offs of form material to the shop for fabrication and shipment to ensure accurate ordering.
  • Monitors shop production with the field progress to ensure timely completion.
  • Produces work orders to shop for pre-assembly of forms to be shipped to the field to ensure efficient installation.
  • Establishes delivery dates for formwork delivered to project to ensure timely installation.
  • Performs inspection of detailed formwork installations to ensure quality and safety.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Civil or Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • EIT credentials preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Basic understanding of BIM.
  • The following competencies are needed to successfully perform this job:
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
