Role Description

We are currently seeking a seasoned Lead Cost Consultant / Quantity Surveyor to oversee cost management and estimation services for a significant technology client's large-scale data center construction initiative.

This position offers a hybrid work model, requiring three days per week on-site at the data center campus.

Success in this role demands exceptional communication skills and the ability to thrive in a client-facing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Provide comprehensive cost planning, including the creation and presentation of the final cost plan.
  • Collaborate with the design services team and general contractor to develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Reconcile changes and assist the general contractor in ensuring data accuracy.
  • Engage with the general contractor and owner project manager to gather status updates for cost estimate revisions.
  • Prepare detailed written feedback on the general contractor's submissions, including executive summaries.
  • Coordinate various sources of cost information for discussions with stakeholders.
  • Drive engineering priorities based on cost implications.
  • Work independently to resolve scheduling challenges.
  • Manage cost checks and conduct valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and precise processes.
  • Effectively participate in post-contract cost variance management and change control processes.
  • Oversee cost impact assessments, contingency management, and commitment tracking.
  • Prepare funding data presentations and facilitate value engineering sessions with stakeholders.
Pre-Contract Responsibilities:
  • Develop cost plans and estimates throughout the design phase, delivering updates at key milestones.
  • Provide commercial insights during design optioneering and value engineering initiatives.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor pricing, leading negotiations to secure fair contract terms.
Post-Contract Responsibilities:
  • Conduct quantity surveying, cost control, and change management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure effective management of post-contract cost variances and change control processes.
  • Oversee cost auditing and valuation, ensuring a robust validation process is in place.
  • Compile monthly cost reports for client presentations.
  • Facilitate timely negotiations and agreements on final accounts.
  • Maintain as-built cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a construction cost management role.
  • Degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field.
  • RICS accreditation or progress towards it.
  • Experience leading cost management on medium to large-scale construction projects of varying complexity.
  • Strong understanding of construction industry technical matters, including procurement routes, value management, and value engineering.
