About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Research Scientist to join our team at Abb Holdings Inc. as a Senior Power Electronics Engineer. This is a key position that will play a critical role in driving innovation and advancing our research and development efforts in the field of power electronics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead research and development projects with multidisciplinary teams to advance our power electronics capabilities.
  • Scout new technologies and generate project proposals to secure funding and resources.
  • Assess new technologies for various applications, including power supplies, grid-connected converters, UPS, EV chargers, motor drives, and more.
  • Coordinate the generation of project proposals for third-party funding and develop technical requirements and designs.
  • Supervise the design of electronic circuits and printed circuit boards, as well as the development of firmware for low and high-level functions of power converters.
  • Coordinate and engage with key suppliers, supervise the generation and testing of simulation models and hardware demonstrators, and supervise the prototyping of test assemblies, running experiments, and recording test data.
  • Supervise the analysis of test results and generate documentation, as well as contribute to the preparation of internal and external technical reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Write invention disclosures and provide technical inputs for patent filings, and represent Abb Holdings Inc. in professional conferences, industry consortia, and other events.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in the field of Power Electronics preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Power Electronics and/or Power Converters, or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering in the field of Power Electronics with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Power Electronics and/or Power Converters.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, work in international teams, and lead teams and manage projects.
  • Experience with writing proposals and securing third-party funding for research projects.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective communication, presentation of results, and networking.
  • Experience with designing and prototyping of electrical circuits, working with PCB manufacturers and machine shops for manufacturing of prototypes.
  • Experience with lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, probes, meters, power supplies, and other basic lab equipment.
  • Experience with writing firmware code for DSPs, MCUs, and FPGAs (C, C++, Verilog).
  • Experience with PCB design.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Abb Holdings Inc. in the US.
