Job Summary: The Direct Care Worker (meds) is a vital member of our team at Homestead of Knoxville. This role requires providing direct care to community residents, focusing on their activities of daily living. Additionally, the employee will assist with housekeeping and laundry duties, mealtime service, and other tasks assigned by the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist residents in and out of bed and into wheelchair according to procedure, potentially requiring the assistance of another aide or the use of a gait belt.
  • Assist residents in bathing and dressing or undressing.
  • Escort residents to the bathroom and provide peri care as needed.
  • Take and record vital signs of residents according to community schedule and policies.
  • Assist residents to the dining area for meals, with the possibility of assisting with feeding.
  • Strip bedding and replace with clean linens per schedule or as needed.
  • Assist with personal grooming of residents.
  • Turn residents as needed when designated on care plans.
  • Clean bedpans and empty catheter bags.
  • Document and/or report information regarding residents as instructed, with documentation completed prior to leaving the shift.
  • Maintain the med room in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Provide housekeeping/cleaning services as required and scheduled by the Executive Director, including resident areas and common spaces.
  • Provide laundry and linen service as required and deliver resident laundry as designated.
  • Perform minor maintenance and servicing on community equipment as instructed, including inventory of supplies.
  • Monitor personal and staff compliance to state and federal requirements, including blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, and fire safety.
Job Requirements:
  • Complete at least 12 hours of in-service education approved by the community, Department of Human Services, and Department of Inspections and Appeals.
  • Complete Relias assignments on time.
  • Successfully complete skills check-off with the RN annually.
  • Demonstrate good working relationships with co-workers and other departments.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
  • If required to operate a motor vehicle for business purposes, successfully complete the requirements contained in Company's Motor Vehicles policy.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Work beyond normal hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Perform the essential position functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
