Job Summary

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Primary Care Physician to join our team. As a Primary Care Physician, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, diagnosing and treating medical conditions, and working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet, assess, and diagnose patients in our clinic, providing them with healthcare services that meet state and national standards.
  • Prescribe patients with appropriate medication, health regimens, and lifestyle adjustments to promote their recovery and prevent future health issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the Department of Clinical Education to ensure that students are meeting all goals and objectives of the primary care rotation as outlined in the clinical curriculum.
  • Obtain student feedback on the quality of their clinical training and work collaboratively with the LECOM Department of Clinical Education and the Regional Deans to share curriculum and collect performance data on regional clinical campus students at the site.
  • Facilitate the integration of osteopathic principles, practice, and philosophy/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine education as a component of clinical training to ensure students are getting sufficient exposures and opportunities for hands-on practice of their osteopathic manipulative skills.
  • Participate in telephonic or internet-based meetings with the Clinical Deans and/or Regional Deans to discuss curriculum development and rotations as needed.
  • Facilitate primary care didactic sessions with students to enhance their medical knowledge base, case presentation skills, and conduct a case-based discussion session with them.
  • Provide quarterly written status reports to the Assistant/Associate Deans in Clinical Education.
  • Monitor key assessment metrics, including shelf exams for clinical experience at regional sites.
  • Assure a uniform clinical and academic exposure for students at the clinic.
  • Prepare educational tools, including A/V, demonstration models, lectures, and lesson plans.
  • Prepare clinical exercises that parallel real-life clinic protocol and procedure by means of case-based models.
  • Prepare demonstrations, lectures, small group discussions, and the selection of suggested and required reading from various sources, and coordinate these educational tools with other faculty members.
  • Prepare evaluation tools that will aid in the evaluation of students' work product and help to identify students that are discovered to be weak in various areas.
  • Attend 'Team' meetings approved by COM that require advancement of your profession.
  • Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Assistant/Associate Deans in Clinical Education.
  • Prepare course syllabus in detail, to include all assignments, readings, both for laboratory exercises and discussions (examinations) that will guide the student through the rigorous curriculum.
  • Must allocate time to complete all tasks necessary to support the primary care clinical curriculum development and student instruction.
  • Accept other duties assigned/needed for the Institution's needs.
Requirements
  • D.O. or M.D. degree required; current Florida medical license; two to five (2-5) years' or more of experience practicing preferred. Hospitalist experience also preferred.
  • Knowledge of general medical coding and related information in the field.
  • Compliance with State and Federal Regulations and Safety Protocols, at the clinic level.
  • Knowledge of student and patient's privacy (i.e. FERPA).
  • Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines; Protect equipment (office).
  • Strong communications skills are essential as well as computer literacy (MS Office Suit [i.e. Word, PowerPoint and Excel]) and accurate data entry skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be accurate and attentive to detail.
  • Must be trained and certified on the Institutional Data System.
  • Must have great skills in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule.
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy.
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Be able to be flexible to accept other duties needed/assigned for the clinic needs.
  • The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations.
