Job Summary

Touro University California is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team in a laboratory conducting research on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage sample flow and priorities in a laboratory setting
  • Perform highly specialized and advanced experiments and assays, including ELISAs, Immunoaffinity assays, Western Blots, and antibody purification
  • Serve as a technical expert for troubleshooting assays and calibrate, set up, and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Prepare analytical reports relative to research data and monitor progress of research projects
  • Coordinate information between research group members and maintain highly detailed records of the stages of development of tests and results
  • Operate sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment and/or perform computer applications
  • Maintain safe and efficient procedures in the laboratory, handle hazardous waste, and provide instruction and training to student researchers
  • Perform library research and assist in the preparation of grants and manuscripts
  • Maintain quality controls standards to preserve the integrity of data and findings
Lab Manager Duties
  • Maintain water filtration system
  • Test the eyewash/shower stations
  • Manage the freezers in G-15
  • Order supplies for maintenance of Ground Floor Labs
  • Keep an up-to-date inventory of chemicals
  • Monitor and manage chemical and biological waste according to disposal rules
  • Establish a clear lab evacuation plan in case of emergencies
  • Monitor and log temperatures for freezers, fridges, and lab room
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a BS or BA in molecular biology/biology/biochemistry or one of the biosciences and 2-7 years of comparable laboratory experience
  • Strong skills in immunoassays and related data analyses
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, strong organizational ability, strong analytical skills, ability to meet deadlines, general computer skills, and ability to use Microsoft office
