Learning Strategist

The College of Lake County seeks a highly skilled and dedicated Alternative Learning Tutor to join our team. As an active participant in the CLC Tutoring Center, you will work closely with students to develop and implement alternative learning strategies that enhance their academic success.

• Tutor students in executive functioning and other skills as needed, providing personalized support to help them achieve their academic goals.
• Coach tutors across disciplines in alternative learning strategies, empowering them to apply these strategies in sessions with students.
• Assist with staff training related to working with students with disabilities, developing and facilitating training sessions to ensure a high level of expertise.
• Tutor in multiple modalities, including face-to-face and online sessions, to accommodate the diverse needs of our students.
• Recommend appropriate learning strategies in basic skills, helping students to overcome challenges and achieve academic success.
• Present class orientations, describing center services and promoting the benefits of our tutoring program.
• Lead study groups as needed, providing a supportive and collaborative learning environment for students.
• Refer students to support services when appropriate, ensuring they receive the help they need to succeed.
• Document tutoring sessions and complete other required reporting, maintaining accurate records and contributing to the evaluation process.
• Participate in staff development opportunities, staying up-to-date with best practices and innovative approaches in tutoring and coaching.
• Contribute to center projects, helping to drive innovation and excellence in our tutoring program.

• Bachelor's degree or higher in special education or a related field.
• Experience working with students with disabilities.
• Ability to tutor in multiple modalities.
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
• Ability to assess student learning needs and determine appropriate learning strategies.
• Proficiency in arithmetic and basic algebra.

• Previous Tutoring Center experience.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Willingness to work at multiple campus locations.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English.
