Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role contributes to the mission of the Ozarks Regional YMCA, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Youth Sports Referee will act as a culture ambassador, an unbiased on-field leader, and a supporter of our initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Understand and comply with Safety Policies, Procedures, and Emergency Response Plans, prioritizing safety at all times.
  2. Prepare playing areas prior to events, ensuring all necessary setups are completed.
  3. Oversee and regulate games to ensure adherence to the sport's rules and any specific regulations of the Ozarks Regional YMCA.
  4. Proactively greet and assist all members, prospective members, program participants, and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner, showing enthusiasm by learning their names and engaging in their YMCA activities.
  5. Pause play when necessary and clearly explain rule violations in a consistent and fair manner.
  6. Demonstrate and communicate YMCA philosophy to players, parents, and coaches.
  7. Report any injuries to the Program Director and follow established safety protocols.
  8. Exhibit the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals of all ages, including parents and coaches.
  9. Work closely with the Program Director to address any concerns raised by staff or participants.
  10. Demonstrate control over all aspects of the games officiated.
  11. Possess the capability to work with diverse age groups and manage large gatherings.
  12. Participate in additional YMCA program activities, staff meetings, and training sessions as required.
  13. Be available to work flexible hours as program demands arise.
  14. Submit records and scores to the supervisor.
  15. Perform other assigned duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Mature, responsible individuals with strong communication skills.
  2. Ability to interact positively with children and adults, demonstrating enthusiasm and flexibility.
  3. Consistently align with and exemplify the YMCA's four core values.
  4. CPR Pro & First Aid Certification required within the first month (training can be provided).
  5. Minimum age of 16 years.
  6. Experience working with children is preferred.
  7. Passionate about youth sports and development.
  8. Strong customer service abilities.
  9. Reliable transportation is necessary.
  10. Must successfully pass a background check.

  1. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for extended periods, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling.

  3. Physical capability to supervise, instruct, and lead groups of children in sports activities.
  4. Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds may be required.
  5. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  6. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
