We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Amergis. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing quality services to students with special needs, kindergarten through grade 12.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in consultation with parents and department team members.
- Support students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities, promoting their educational, physical, and social development.
- Design and deliver instruction, both individual and small group, that parallels the general education curriculum.
- Collaborate with general education staff, parents, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop educational plans.
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Coordinate IEP implementation with general education staff, monitoring student progress and participating in review and revision of IEPs as needed.
- Maintain accurate student records, ensuring compliance with school district policies and procedures.
- Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities.
- Assess students' skills and educational needs, tracking their performance and discussing progress with other teachers.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, maintaining positive relationships and promoting a culture of inclusivity.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (preferred).
- Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract, or district regulations.
- Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment (preferred).
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching (preferred).
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching (preferred).
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching (preferred).
- Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) (preferred).
- Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program (when applicable).
- Current CPR (if applicable).
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray (if applicable).
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
- Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training (as applicable to job site).
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Ability to effectively elicit and provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
