Job Summary

The Lead Patient Transporter is a critical role at UT Southwestern Medical Center, responsible for overseeing the Transport Command Center and ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of patients throughout the hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a friendly and efficient service attitude towards transporters and co-workers
  • Follow all department and hospital policies and procedures to promote patient care
  • Plan, monitor, and direct transporters for proper work habits and daily tasks
  • Assign requests to transporters and review accuracy of work completed
  • Coordinate patient transporters' daily schedule, breaks, and lunches in a timely manner
  • Ensure transporters are fully trained and responsible for specific training duties
  • Work closely with Operations Supervisor to ensure all business operations needs are met
  • Identify and resolve problems with transport flow in a timely manner
  • Recognize emergency situations, record unusual conditions, and initiate code procedures if needed
  • Participate in monthly meetings and/or educational activities
Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED required
  • Six (6) month experience in transport preferred or higher education in lieu of experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by the first day of employment
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a hospital or hospital clinic environment. Requires standing, walking for long periods, and must be able to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment.

Please note that you may be required to transport Covid-19 suspected and/or positive patients. You will be provided with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The required PPE will involve a Fit Test. Proper fitting may necessitate trimming or shaving facial hair because beard growth or facial hair prevents a necessary seal between the respirator and the face.
