Vascular Access Phlebotomist

We are seeking a skilled Vascular Access Phlebotomist to join our team at the University of Chicago Medicine. As a member of our Nursing Inpatient Phlebotomy department, you will be responsible for drawing blood and starting peripheral IVs for patients in various locations under minimal supervision. This is a full-time opportunity with a night shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with every other weekend and holiday rotation.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise and in a customer service-oriented fashion, adhering to all established policies and procedures
Properly package specimens for delivery through the pneumatic tube system
Stock blood drawing carts and maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment
Use a handheld system to identify patients, indicate specimen collection status, and generate specimen collection labels
Plan the delivery of IV access for patients in coordination with the healthcare team
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent
Current CPR training recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance without direct supervision
Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public
Preferred Qualifications:
IV insertion and IV certification
IV access with Ultrasound training
Training in phlebotomy from an accredited program
One to two years of practical experience with references
