Job Title: Associate Veterinarian

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Associate Veterinarian to join our team at the Potter League for Animals. As a key member of our veterinary clinic, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to under-resourced pets and their owners in Rhode Island.

Job Summary:

The Associate Veterinarian will be responsible for the daily care of all patients, including assessing overall health, formulating treatment plans, and performing surgical procedures. You will work closely with our team to ensure that every pet receives the best possible care, and that our clients receive exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Examine animals for overall health and formulate appropriate treatment plans
  • Perform surgical sterilizations and other surgical procedures
  • Inoculate animals and provide recommendations for follow-up care
  • Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by veterinary technicians
  • Supervise post-operative rechecks and order of medical treatments to ensure complete surgical recovery
  • Communicate patient medical care issues and needs to customers as required
  • Creatively problem-solve on a daily basis
  • Make reasonable and sensible medical decisions
  • Follow and support all organizational and medical protocols
  • Communicate effectively with clinic leadership to keep apprised of all out-of-the-ordinary situations
  • Provide medical oversight of the clinic program, including evaluation of medical, surgical, and disease control procedures
  • Evaluate and develop medical staff training
  • Give input on medical staff performance reviews on an annual basis or more frequently as needed
  • Behave in a manner that upholds both personal and professional standards as an ambassador of the Potter League for Animals at all times
  • Adhere to DEA requirements for controlled drugs and responsible stewardship of drug and supply inventory
  • Maintains appropriate licensing, and insurance and completes required continuing education courses
  • Follows all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment and monitors program to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations
  • Adheres to all Code of Conduct standards

Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree
  • License to practice veterinary medicine in Rhode Island, or ability to become licensed
  • Current DEA License, or ability to obtain
  • Knowledge of the Humane Alliance spay and neuter model is preferred, but we will train
