The California Department of Justice is in search of accomplished professionals to join our ranks as Lead Attorneys in the Tort and Condemnation Section. In this pivotal role, you will oversee teams of litigators and play a significant part in managing our diverse and frequently high-profile civil litigation endeavors.

Key Responsibilities of the Lead Attorney in Tort and Condemnation Section include:

  • Offering proactive leadership, guidance, mentorship, and training to team members
  • Collaborating with the litigation team on case management and strategic planning
  • Reviewing and ensuring the highest standards of written legal documents
  • Working closely with Senior Deputy Attorneys General across the state
  • Maintaining direct communication and coordination with clients
  • Managing complex litigation matters as required
  • Assessing the performance of legal staff
  • Upholding the ethical standards of the Attorney General's Office

All candidates must be residents of California and active members of the California State Bar. Lead Attorneys have the flexibility to telecommute or work from the office, with mandatory in-person meetings at the local office. Travel and in-person attendance may be required for various professional activities.
