Job Title: Accelerator Systems Project Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. As a key member of the Accelerator Systems group in the STS Directorate, you will be responsible for the design and integration of beam transport line sub-systems for the Second Target Station (STS) project.

The STS is a $2B Department of Energy project that will provide wholly new capabilities for the study of a broad range of materials with neutron scattering. As a Project Engineer, you will work closely with our team to ensure the successful delivery of this project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop beamline assembly and component design packages as assigned.
  • Lead and participate in design reviews and drive peer review of designs within scope.
  • Draft, track, review, and manage project document types, including interface control documents, requirements definition documents, design and analysis calculations, fabrication drawings, technical specifications, design failure modes and effects analyses, fault trees, statements of work, installation plans, test plans, and procurement documents.
  • Ensure compliance with Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and QA requirements.
  • Collaborate with Neutron Science Directorate (NScD) operations to ensure operations requirements are captured.
  • Ensure traceability between operations requirements, accelerator requirements, design features, and design verification test plans.
  • Manage assigned equipment procurement contracts to ensure that equipment is procured and delivered on schedule.
Requirements:
  • BS in an engineering, physics, or related field with 5 or more years of proven experience.
  • Proficient in the use of CAD systems such as Creo/Pro-E, Solidworks, AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and drafting standards.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with directing designers in the creation of engineering drawings and checking designer output.
  • Working level proficiency in Creo CAD software.
  • Experienced in creating technical specifications and statements of work.
  • Experienced in working with vendors to procure custom equipment.
  • Experience with installation and testing of complex equipment.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp, prioritize, and analyze complex technical problems.
