Job Summary

Purdue University seeks a seasoned senior-level industrial hygienist to support the animal occupational health and safety program. The successful candidate will provide technical guidance for animal research safety programs and deliver industrial hygiene services to recognize, evaluate, and control occupational hazards across the university's campuses and farms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct sampling to evaluate employee exposures and determine corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide senior-level technical guidance for animal research safety programs.
  • Deliver industrial hygiene services to recognize, evaluate, and control occupational hazards.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Serve as a resource and assist in coaching and reviewing the work of IH staff and animal care, use program staff and researchers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification by a nationally recognized organization (CIH, CSP, CHMM, CHP, PE).
  • Two years of experience in a university or research setting.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Thorough knowledge of the industrial hygiene profession, federal and state regulations pertaining to occupational health, and monitoring & surveillance instrumentation and procedures.
  • Strong work organization, verbal and written communication, and demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Subject to 24-hour call-back for chemical spills and emergencies.
  • Microsoft computer skills.
