Your Responsibilities:
The Mid-Level Geologist will oversee project management and provide technical assistance for environmental site assessments and remediation initiatives, catering to federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients. The selected individual will review, comprehend, and execute site-specific work plans and scopes of work. Responsibilities include managing and executing field investigations (soil, water, and air sampling; drilling, well installation, subcontractor supervision, and coordination with analytical laboratories), as well as overseeing construction and remedial actions, and managing personnel in the field.

Interpreting geological, hydrogeological, and environmental chemical data is crucial for this role. Proficiency in databases, spreadsheets, geographic information systems, and hydrogeologic software applications, such as Aqtesolv and Earth Volumetric Studio, is highly preferred. These skills will be utilized in preparing technical deliverables, including reports, letters, proposals, cost estimates, tables, and figures.

The ideal candidate will be proactive in business development, with a proven track record of executing and managing environmental projects for key clients and generating work for themselves and others. Adherence to company safety standards, participation in safety training, and preparation and implementation of site-specific health and safety plans are expected.

Qualifications:

  • 7-15 years of professional experience in environmental consulting, demonstrating a history of increasing responsibility. Project experience should include conducting Phase I ESAs (ASTM-compliant), Phase II Site Investigations, UST compliance monitoring, UST closures, and vapor intrusion assessments. Previous field experience is essential, including supervision of sampling activities and environmental drilling operations, with the ability to work independently on field projects.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports, memos, response to comments tables, and diagrams is required. Strong technical writing skills are essential.
  • Attention to detail is crucial. The successful candidate must be able to observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions and communicate changes in field conditions to senior staff.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret chemistry and environmental data is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface with clients, subcontractors, working groups, and internal customers are necessary.
  • Residence in the Washington DC metropolitan area at the time of application is required.
  • Familiarity with the conceptual site model process is preferred. Experience with CERCLA RI/FS and PA/SI is also preferred.
  • Project management training or experience is advantageous.
  • Experience with DOD, federal, state, municipal, and private sector projects is preferred.
  • Ability to assist with cost estimating and obtaining bids from vendors and subcontractors is a plus.
  • Capability to review and summarize agency regulations, policies, and procedures into accessible language is preferred.
  • Enthusiasm, resourcefulness, and a positive attitude are beneficial.
  • The successful candidate will communicate effectively and make informed decisions for the benefit of the client and the company.
  • Problem-solving skills, collaborative spirit, and adaptability to changing situations are essential.
  • GIS experience is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Effective time management and the ability to work as part of a larger project team are necessary.
  • A strong commitment to health and safety is essential.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to take direction and work independently are required.
  • A strong drive to succeed and a five-star work ethic are preferred. The successful candidate will maintain a consistent level of positivity.
Education and Certifications:
  • A BS/BA degree in Geology or a related discipline is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Training is preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training and 8-hour OSHA Supervisors of Hazardous Waste Operations Training are preferred.
Physical Demands:
  • The candidate must be able to traverse large project sites and physically carry up to 35 pounds of equipment (such as sampling tools, GPS units, field screening equipment, and cameras) during fieldwork.
  • Field activities may occur in various weather conditions, in remote locations, and on uneven terrain.
  • Field sampling and monitoring may involve various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and air).
  • The candidate must also be able to perform office-based tasks at a desk/computer.
