Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the accounting team and other departments to meet financial objectives.
  • Gather and evaluate financial data to prepare journal entries for general ledger accounts, ensuring all business transactions are documented.
  • Deliver precise and timely financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Work closely with retail, warehouse, and fuel divisions to guarantee compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Review and analyze inventory accounting and cost of goods sold, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Interpret profit and loss statements, assessing the company's financial position for leadership review.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting efforts across all company sectors.
  • Maintain robust internal controls over accounting practices and financial systems.
  • Propose enhancements for accounting processes, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives for the department and specific responsibilities.
  • Engage in the annual financial audit, ensuring compliance with deadlines.
  • Participate in periodic physical asset counts.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and apply new insights to enhance business operations.

Qualifications and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, finance, and management accounting principles.
  • Proficient in financial software systems, including transactional ERPs and budgeting tools.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong mathematical and accounting abilities.
  • Capability to interpret and analyze complex information.
  • Skilled in preparing reports and business communications.
  • Adept at researching data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in presenting information visually.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for business purposes.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's Degree in business or finance, coupled with four or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred. Previous experience in the retail sector is advantageous.
