Job Title: Health Physicist

We are seeking a highly skilled Health Physicist to join our team at the State of Kansas. As a Health Physicist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens by analyzing and interpreting data from environmental samples, learning about radiation and health physics concepts, and conducting fieldwork to collect environmental samples.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement and operate the KDHE radiological environmental monitoring program
  • Collect and analyze environmental samples for routine radiological environmental surveillance and Wolf Creek environmental monitoring
  • Coordinate fieldwork with the Environmental Compliance/Regulatory Specialist I and ensure quality assurance requirements are met
  • Prepare and interpret environmental surveillance reports and correspondence
  • Communicate scientific and technical environmental information to public, organizations, or internal audiences
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science with an emphasis in biology, chemistry, geology, or related natural science
  • Associate of Science degree in any science field and four years of experience working in a radiation-related field, or six years of experience in a radiation-related field
  • Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in health physics, sciences, or engineering
  • Certification or eligible for certification by the American Board of Health Physics
  • Certification or eligible for certification by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists
  • Certification or eligible for certification by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists

Please note that the incumbent must be certified by a physician to utilize personal protective equipment within 12 months of hire and maintain respiratory qualification throughout employment. The incumbent must also be certified as both a Radon Measurement and Radon Mitigation Technician within 12 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
