Sterile Processing Technician III Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician III plays a vital role in ensuring the highest quality standards are met in the departmental procedures and established industry standards. This position assumes responsibility and accountability for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of Mass General Brigham into their job performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Disassemble, clean, disinfect, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and distribute sterile instruments, flexible scopes, and supplies used in the Operating Rooms, Maternity, Emergency Department, and throughout the hospital.
- Perform chemical, mechanical, and biological testing of disinfection and sterilization equipment.
- Understand and follow International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) and/or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD) standards and procedures.
- Obtain and maintain Registered Central Service Technician (C.R.C.S.T) or Certified Sterile Process/Dist Tech (C.S.P.D.T) certification at all times during employment.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- Effective written and verbal communications skills required.
- Completion of Central Processing Technology Course required.
- At least three (3) years of sterile processing experience required performing all Sterile Processing functions within an operative setting.
Working Conditions:
The physical environment has distractions from machine or related noise or exposure to unpleasant elements such as chemical fumes, dust, or temperature variations. Duties involve cleaning with exposure to soil, odors, dust, blood, body fluids, or other unpleasant elements.
Physical Standards of Job Description:
- Constantly 75% or more of the worker's time is spent in the activity.
- Frequently 25% to 75% or more of the worker's time is spent in this activity.
- Occasionally 5% to 25% or more of the worker's time is spent in this activity.
- Rarely under 5% or more of the worker's time is spent in the activity.
