Job Summary

Orlando Health is seeking a highly skilled Nurse Resident to join our team in Advanced Care. As a Nurse Resident, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing high-quality patient care and developing your nursing skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer patient care in an area within a hospital or inpatient setting where patients have advanced illnesses or injuries that require timely, intense, and complex care.
  • Work under the supervision of a preceptor, leader, and/or charge nurse to develop your critical knowledge, skills, and judgment.
  • Utilize information and assessment data to anticipate, respond to, and adapt to rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Identify and prioritize information to take immediate and decisive evidence-based, patient-focused actions.
  • Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, interpret electronic displays, and record patient data.
  • Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.
  • Observe, monitor, and assess patients' conditions, recognize serious situations, and call the Physician or take preplanned emergency measures when necessary.
  • Assess patients' needs and develop/revised individualized plans of care based on their needs and responses.
  • Evaluate patients' progress toward attaining expected outcomes.
  • Respect diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
  • Function as an advocate for patients and their families.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit/department.
  • Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  • Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department.
  • Serve as a role model for staff and support the hospital and nursing department's goals and strategies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the necessary information to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
  • Coordinate patient care for a defined group and delegate tasks appropriately to team members.
  • Document patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner, meeting all required and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and the use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit/department-specific requisite skills.
  • Prioritize patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
  • Practice effective problem identification and resolution.
  • Delegate tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient's needs and the team member's capabilities and qualifications.
  • Communicate appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrate caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
  • Collaborate with the education department and nursing leadership team to effectively transition and support new team members and/or students.
  • Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Nursing school graduate.
  • Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the unit/department.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida or valid Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) multistate RN license.
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
