Job Summary

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer Assistant to join our team. As a Mechanical Engineer Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of preliminary calculations and detailed plans and specifications for mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to design and develop special engineering systems and controls.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create and modify drawings and designs.
  • Conduct engineering studies, tests, and analyses to identify and resolve mechanical system issues.
  • Prepare reports, engineering cost estimates, and contract language to support project development and implementation.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors to obtain information on industrial equipment and systems.
  • Act as a resident engineer on small projects, reviewing contractor designs and drawings for accuracy and conformity to District standards.
  • Inspect and analyze equipment condition, determining repair or replacement needs.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of maintenance programs to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Compile and analyze plant equipment and facility operating data to inform process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • One year of experience in mechanical engineering or a related field, preferably in a water or wastewater treatment environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and other engineering tools.

Working Conditions

This position will be based in a typical office environment with occasional exposure to mechanical equipment and systems. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
