Cobol Programmer

We are seeking a skilled Cobol Developer to join our team at Apex Systems. As a Cobol Developer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting software solutions that meet the needs of our business units and analysts.

• Investigate and resolve issues with deployed software, including rolling out needed patches
• Support the team in a weekly on-call rotation, providing operational support for our legacy systems
• Develop high-quality, secure, scalable, and maintainable software, adhering to coding standards
• Review code with other developers to share project and technical knowledge
• Deploy projects within a build and deploy pipeline, including transitioning first-line support to IT Ops
• Collaborate with developers, analysts, and QA testers to plan and execute in a high-energy Agile environment
• Participate in technical planning, determining tasks associated with project assignments, estimates, and dependencies
• Work with Solution Architecture to design software solutions that support the Mortgage Insurance life cycle
• Update and modernize code to the latest supported versions to ensure security, stability, and support
• Effectively communicate project status and deliveries to the team and management

• Proficient experience using COBOL
• Experience with Agile methodology using Scrum, Kanban, or similar
• Working knowledge of Mainframe COBOL, DB2, Oracle, and JCL
• Strong communication and collaboration skills (upward, lateral, and downward)
• Eye on continuous improvement
• Experience with Service Now ticketing and JIRA, a plus
