Pipefitter

The Pipefitter is responsible for laying out, installing, and maintaining vessels' piping systems, including heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines. This role requires following blueprints and utilizing hand tools and shop machines to cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings. The Pipefitter also cuts and bores holes in bulkheads and decks for pipe installation and operates shop machines to fabricate lengths of piping systems.

• Reads layouts to determine project requirements and plans accordingly.
• Installs piping systems onboard and within vessel modules, including positioning, fastening, and connecting various systems.
• Tests installed systems to ensure specifications using hydrostatic and other pressurized equipment.
• Works with an apprentice, sometimes called a tacker/helper, to complete tasks.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by management.

This role requires standing on a continuous basis and some degree of visual acuity when deciphering layouts. The Pipefitter must be able to lift and carry items, with assistance available for items over 40lbs. A shop setting allows for work on an even, concrete surface.
