Position Overview
The Coffee Specialist is responsible for crafting and serving a variety of coffee beverages, including espresso, lattes, and cappuccinos, adhering to established recipes and preparation methods. This role reports directly to the Assistant Food & Beverage Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and assist guests with enthusiasm and friendliness.
- Foster connections with guests by explaining the beverage menu, addressing inquiries, and offering drink recommendations.
- Accurately take orders and consistently prepare beverages according to standard recipes and presentation guidelines; seek clarification when necessary.
- Deliver beverages to guests at their tables, both indoors and on the patio.
- Manage cash and card transactions, ensuring accuracy in charges and providing correct change.
- Contribute creative ideas to the Food & Beverage Supervisor.
- Maintain inventory levels by restocking coffee supplies and food items for the beverage station.
- Ensure cleanliness and safe operation of equipment by following operational guidelines; troubleshoot issues and perform routine maintenance.
- Report any required equipment repairs to the supervisor.
- Uphold a safe and sanitary work environment by keeping the workspace organized and adhering to sanitation standards.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards or customer concerns to a supervisor.
- Assist in training team members and promote a supportive and friendly team atmosphere.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of the resort's offerings to encourage guests to explore additional services.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications / Skills
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- One to three months of relevant experience preferred.
- Must meet state and federal age requirements for serving alcohol, if applicable.
- Current Food Handlers card is required.
- Ability to learn quickly and think on your feet.
- Basic math skills for calculating discounts and percentages.
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions and correspondence.
- Capable of preparing beverages while engaging in conversation with guests and team members, even in a busy environment.
- Effective communication skills for presenting information to individuals and small groups.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and calm demeanor in a fast-paced setting.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates initiative and sound judgment in decision-making.
- Attention to detail and comfort in a dynamic work environment.
- Flexible schedule availability, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Work Environment
This position typically operates in both indoor and outdoor café settings, involving frequent use of computer/register and beverage equipment. Outdoor work may expose employees to varying weather conditions and occasional wildlife. The noise level can range from moderate to loud, and outdoor tasks may require navigating various terrains while carrying trays of food and beverages.
Physical Demands
The physical demands outlined here represent those encountered while performing essential job functions. This role requires regular visual and auditory attention, clear communication, and active engagement with guests. Employees must be able to stand, walk, bend, and reach for most of their shift, with frequent hand washing required. The position may involve lifting or moving items weighing up to 20 pounds.
