POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring that payroll systems, processes, and deliverables are established and executed with precision, timeliness, and adherence to company protocols. This role involves analyzing systems and data, utilizing sound judgment to address issues and challenges. The Senior Accountant also provides essential support to the Finance Manager, ensuring that effective financial services are delivered and that financial reports comply with GAAP and company policies. Confidentiality of sensitive information is paramount.
MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISION
This position involves managing and supervising finance personnel. The Senior Accountant may serve as the Acting Finance Manager in the absence of the Finance Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Adheres to all integrity guidelines and procedures, ensuring no manipulation of financial data.
• Prepares payroll taxes, garnishments, insurance reports, and related reconciliations, ensuring timely filing of all payroll-related documents. Collaborates with Human Resources to guarantee payroll accuracy, deductions, and reporting.
• Prioritizes tasks to ensure timely completion of all deliverables.
• Analyzes systems and data to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Reviews and edits the work of subordinate staff within the Finance Department.
• Provides training and mentorship to Finance Department staff.
• Plays a critical role in identifying allowable versus disallowable expenses.
• Reconciles the Accounts Payable bank account, general ledger accounts, and prepares necessary journal entries.
• Compiles all financial reports for submission to upper management and relevant authorities.
• Conducts bi-weekly audits for records scanning of student files.
• Oversees the operations of the Student Store.
• Performs routine audits for property and sensitive items.
• Records, audits, and reports financial transactions, managing the Student Welfare Fund and the Student Store as applicable.
• Executes all tasks assigned to the Finance Department, including cash and meal ticket fund audits, to support departmental operations and substitute for the Finance Manager as needed.
• Maintains organized, efficient, and logical systems for financial and cost data management.
• Produces high-quality work in a thorough, timely, and accurate manner.
• Upholds personal attendance, accountability, and productivity standards.
• Plans, prioritizes, and organizes assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
• Applies job knowledge effectively to fulfill all job responsibilities and proactively maintains necessary skills.
• Mentors and models the Career Success Standards as required.
• Demonstrates respect and courtesy to students while holding them accountable for their actions.
• Ensures quality services for students, striving for continuous improvement and enhancement of services.
• Communicates ideas and information clearly and concisely, contributing meaningfully to group efforts and providing timely information to relevant parties.
• Effectively articulates thoughts and ideas, identifies problems, analyzes causes, and evaluates appropriate solutions before taking action. Follows up to ensure prompt resolution of issues.
• Collaborates with staff across all departments to ensure effective supervision and services for students.
• Accepts direction and supervision from management, including assignments to temporarily perform duties in other departments.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is required. A minimum of two years of experience in business and accounting is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications is necessary. Candidates must pass the company finance assessment.
