Job Description / Essential Elements:

POSITION TITLE:
Multilingual Educational Support Specialist

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Collaborate under the guidance of the site administrator to assist in the instructional activities for English Language Learning students.

The role primarily involves direct engagement with students to address their educational and physical needs.

Support learning concepts as directed by the teacher or specialist in small groups or as required. Aid in supervising students during recess and lunch periods.

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:
Direct supervision from School Administration, with potential technical or functional oversight from a certificated instructor or other certificated personnel.

DUTIES:

  • Assist the educator in planning and executing instructional activities while ensuring effective communication to meet institutional goals.
  • Help prepare instructional materials and study aids for classroom or individual use.
  • Translate teacher instructions from English to Spanish or another language as needed.
  • Communicate with parents of non-English speaking students to relay important messages from teachers.
  • Provide translation services at various school events such as Back-to-School night and Parent/Teacher Conferences.
  • Assist in administering and scoring assessments.
  • Work independently with small groups and individuals, including supporting students with disabilities.
  • Interpret the instructional program and District Mission to students, parents, and community members.
  • Maintain necessary records for program management and compliance.
  • Report unusual student behavior or concerns to the instructor.
  • Supervise students in non-classroom settings.
  • Assist in organizing field trips and accompany classes as needed.
  • Perform various clerical tasks, including preparing and copying instructional materials.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Fluency in Spanish or another target language, along with proficient English usage.
  • Specific teaching methods related to the instructional plan, including core subjects.
  • General classroom procedures and rules of conduct.
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

ABILITY TO:

  • Accept supervision and collaborate effectively with staff.
  • Communicate effectively with limited English speaking students and parents.
  • Learn and apply principles for enhancing reading, language arts, and math skills.
  • Support the school/program in implementing instructional activities.
  • Demonstrate care and concern for students in an educationally appropriate manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student status and classroom activities.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
All candidates must pass a pre-employment examination, TB clearance, and fingerprint screening.
Experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities are qualifying.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
School classrooms, playgrounds, multipurpose rooms, offices, and staff areas.
