Job Responsibilities
  1. Oversee all activities associated with the maintenance program, including agency staff, contractors, and consultants, while providing engineering support for large-scale and complex maintenance programs.
  2. Review designs prepared by consultants, other agencies, and developers to facilitate future maintenance needs.
  3. Apply leadership management and engineering skills to evaluate and develop solutions, using appropriate design criteria and standards for the rehabilitation and repair of transportation infrastructure, from concept to completion.
  4. Work with regulatory agencies on the federal, state, and local level to secure appropriate permits and authorizations to execute projects.
  5. Prepare budgets, project estimates, designs, and specifications to ensure successful completion of on-time and on-budget programs and projects.
  6. Maintain communication with consultants, contractors, elected officials, and the public to convey tasks, planned work, and desired results.
  7. Provide training, guidance, mentoring, encouragement, and direction to subordinate staff in the maintenance needs and processes of the branch.
  8. Lead, coordinate, and manage project logistics, a diverse project staff, and resources from a variety of internal and external sources, including technical, legal, engineering, and maintenance fields.
Requirements

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

A valid driver's license and possession of a valid Virginia Professional Engineer or Architect license are required. An individual who possesses a valid Professional Engineer or Architect license in another state will be granted a temporary exemption to this requirement pending the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers, and Landscape Architects decision regarding that individual's application for reciprocity.

Preferred qualifications include experience managing and coordinating projects, applied engineering knowledge of site and structural construction practices, experience in municipal maintenance rehabilitation and repair projects, knowledge of local government land development processes and related code requirements, demonstrated collaboration, facilitation, and partnering abilities, strong oral and written communication skills, and project management skills.

The ability to perform field investigation and maintenance scoping on roadway, trail, streetscape improvements, and pedestrian bridges, as well as perform investigations on construction or maintenance type projects, is also required. Physically and mentally able to use all applicable personal protective equipment in an outdoor environment, including hardhat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, and personal protective equipment.
