Unit Overview
As a Level 3 trauma facility, we operate 15 surgical suites within the Magnet Designated Corewell Health System. Our institution is recognized for excellence in bariatric and total joint procedures. Approximately 40% of our surgical cases involve total joints and elective spine surgeries, while the remaining 60% encompass General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic, and ENT operations. The Blodgett Surgical Center is equipped with advanced technology, including 3 Davinci robots, a Mako robot, and Mazor and Stealth systems. Our operating room functions as a collaborative environment where Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and Surgical Support Staff unite to ensure optimal patient care and support for surgeons and anesthesia teams throughout the surgical process. The Blodgett OR team also acts as advocates for patients during anesthesia. Staff members are required to employ precise critical thinking skills, often under time constraints, while prioritizing cost-effective quality care and patient safety.

Role Responsibilities
The Surgical Technologist is accountable for the preparation of the surgical environment, the intraoperative management of instruments, the maintenance of a sterile field, and the assessment of evolving conditions during surgical procedures, responding appropriately as necessary. This role requires a thorough understanding of surgical techniques and principles relevant to those techniques. The Surgical Technologist may also take on the role of a Preceptor.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred experience as a Surgical Technologist (clinical rotations are considered as experience).
- Required: AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
