Surgical Technologist Role Overview

The Surgical Technologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital plays a vital role in the operating room, responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment. This position assists with the peri-operative care of patients, working closely with surgeons and nurses to ensure the smooth and efficient function of the operating room. A strong understanding of sterile techniques is essential, and the ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment is required.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
  • Current Surgical Technologist Certification is required or have been employed as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility on or before July 1st, 2013, or have successfully completed a training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service (MA Senate Bill 2058, December 2012).
  • Candidates who are currently close to completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program are encouraged to apply. Current experience in OR or Ambulatory Surgery is required.
  • Knowledge of patient care and aseptic technique is essential.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • May not currently hold a valid nursing license.
