Job Title: Data Analyst

Join the City of Chicago's team as a Data Analyst in the Office of Public Safety Administration. This role is part of the Analyst Information Technology Job Family, which focuses on working with stakeholders to identify and define needs/issues, document requirements, perform analysis, solve problems with fact-based analysis, and provide recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with various teams to determine how data analysis can support organizational goals
  • Gather data to support recommendations to address problems, with appropriate contingency plans
  • Analyze large sets of data
  • Work with numerous data sources from different City entities
  • Look for patterns, analyze outcomes, and report results
  • Work with stakeholders to identify priorities and outcomes for trends
  • Develop recommendations for resolution of problems and review recommendations with the team
  • Understand and apply information and data analysis requirements
  • Turn information into insights to support and enable key decisions and business processes
  • Support information governance in conjunction with Architects and Data Stewards
  • Design, create, and maintain relational databases and data systems of moderate to high complexity
  • Work with open datasets, including populating and extracting data from internal and public open datasets
  • Perform data analysis, including conceptualization, modeling, and presentation of data
  • Perform a variety of technical tasks related to capturing, managing, and analyzing data
  • Clean and prune data to discard irrelevant information
  • Design reporting dashboards to translate data into an understandable illustrative format and fulfill ad hoc reporting requests
  • Develop procedures for data validation, analysis, and presentation
  • Perform initial data exploration (e.g., binning, pivoting, summarizing, and finding correlations)
  • Implement statistical models to identify and reveal trends, patterns, and relationships in data to provide guidance to others for decision-making processes
  • Actively suggest analytics opportunities and best practices
  • Catalog and enable access to resident and external data sources
  • Help to streamline analytics to go from experimentation into production
  • Support innovative efforts by driving creativity, acting with agility, and thinking outside current boundaries
  • May create data visualizations and reports to present to audiences using presentation layer tools
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a directly related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Previous work experience with public safety applications (i.e. Police, Fire, or 911 technology)
  • Previous work experience with large system and database management
