About the Role:

WXIA/WATL, the TEGNA-owned NBC and MyNetworkTV affiliates, are seeking a skilled Television Broadcast Systems Engineer. The successful candidate will possess a comprehensive knowledge of broadcast technologies and operational frameworks within a continuous broadcast environment, particularly in local news production and field operations. This role entails the installation and upkeep of video, audio, RF, and various systems integral to television broadcasting. Our engineering team is committed to delivering outstanding service to both internal departments and our audience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage SDI Video infrastructure including Routers, Distribution Amplifiers, Frame Synchronizers, De-Embedders, and Embedders.
  • Provide live production support utilizing Production Switchers, Audio Boards, and Intercom systems.
  • Oversee RF systems maintenance, including ATSC Solid State Transmitters, Microwave links, Satellite dishes, L-Band Routers, Integrated Receiver Decoders, and CCTV systems.
  • Handle compression and ASI transport streams.
  • Maintain power systems such as transfer switches, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, and generators.
  • Operate and troubleshoot Mobile Satellite trucks.
  • Support field production activities.
  • Maintain newsroom systems including ENPS, Bitcentral, and SONY ELC.
  • Lead projects through all phases including design, review, Bill of Materials creation, purchasing, installation, configuration, user acceptance testing, and implementation.
  • Create video/audio/control systems diagrams using Visio or CAD software.
  • Understand IP networking protocols.
  • Work with Virtual Machines.
  • Possess Windows Administration skills.
  • Manage Windows Active Directory.
  • Utilize automation control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with Emergency Alert Systems and FCC regulations.
  • Experience with IP video technologies is preferred (SMPTE 2110, NDI).
  • Perform light building maintenance tasks such as installing shelving, replacing bulbs, and responding to HVAC or plumbing issues.
Qualifications:
  • Exemplary customer service skills.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Television Engineering.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team or independently as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly articulating problem statuses, project updates, and technical solutions.
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to identify improvement opportunities and propose actionable plans.
  • Associate degree in electronics or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Capacity to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work various hours, including weekends, overnights, and holidays as necessary.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
