Job Summary

A Maintenance Technician at Seneca Foods is responsible for performing a wide range of duties related to maintaining the facility. This includes reading and understanding blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and operating manuals, as well as troubleshooting electrical control circuits, mechanical and electrical systems, and programming PLC systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and understand blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and operating manuals
  • Troubleshoot electrical control circuits, mechanical and electrical systems
  • Program PLC systems
  • Have a working knowledge of refrigeration systems
  • Perform or provide oversight to pitter rebuilds and repairs
  • Ability to weld parts or structures
  • Ability to fabricate parts, guards, etc. as needed
  • Ability to run line equipment unassisted
  • Ability to repair and install plumbing systems
  • Understand electrical components such as timers, relay, transformers, etc.
  • Be aware and follow all safety techniques and consistently comply with all facility safety procedures
  • Ability to work with and on compressed air systems, solenoids, air cylinders, piping, etc.
  • Identify needs and work with purchasing on obtaining replacement parts
  • Ability to train maintenance and operating personnel in proper procedures of equipment
  • Ability to work flexible hours and maintain good attendance; work overtime as required
  • Accurate paperwork completion; maintain records/documentation as required

Competencies and Certifications Required

  • Internal GMP/HACCP/SQF Training
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Trained and knowledgeable in the use of PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Must pass respiratory fitness test
  • OSHA Forklift License

Physical Demands of Job

  • Frequent standing and walking
  • Occasional climbing, bending, stooping, and twisting
  • Frequent lifting and/or pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds

Work Environment

  • Wet or humid conditions
  • Extreme temperatures
  • Exposure to brine (sulfur dioxide)
  • Exposure to bleach (calcium chloride)
  • Exposure to maintenance and/or cleaning chemicals
